At Amazonat one may come across autogamous orchids. The name refers to orchids that bear flowers which are successfully self-pollinated, for example ones that never open but still produce fertile seed. The orchid in this picture has a flower that never opened.

 

 

Galeandra devoniana

 

This orchid species grows frequently on exposed trunks of (dead) trees in the river Urubú. It seems to be well adjusted to direct sunlight. As the last two pictures show, its reproduction can be both vegetative and generative (seeds).
